Peter Perrett - former frontman of The Only Ones - releases his debut solo album How The West Was Won on June 30th through Domino. Perrett, whose incisive songcraft and sardonic drawl made him one of the most distinctive voices of the Seventies hasnt released any the West Was Won is the debut solo studio album by English musician Peter Perrett, released on 30 June 2017 by Domino. It was mainly produced by Chris Kimsey with Peter Perrett and his son Jamie producing the title track. Two music videos were produced for the album: How the West Was Won and An Epic Story. All tracks are written by Peter Perrett, except where noted. The tale of Peter Perrett seemed destined for tragedy. After the glory of the Only Ones, the singer descended into a years-long battle with drug addiction that saw him surfacing for air regularly - even releasing a very good album with his band the One in 2005 - but then going back under, leaving fans to assume that they next time they heard his name, it would be in. an obit. Luckily for all involved, Perrett cleaned up in the mid-2010s and got it together enough to record and release his first solo album. Its astonishing that How the West Was Won exists at all. The fact that Perrett seems not just to have emerged from the abyss but emerged with his musical faculties completely intact suggests there is something superhuman about him. But he has. Its all there, in the opening title track. A Sweet Jane-like riff decorated with ghostly slide guitar. The facility for effortless, languid melody. The voice a nasal South London drawl, apparently unaffected by the lung disease its owner visited upon himself. Album 2017 10 Songs. Peter Perrett - How The West Was Won. Former Only Ones frontman Peter Perrett sounds as languidly wasted as ever on How The West Was Won, though thankfully its the kind of wasted that demands the devotion of his sons, both involved in this solo debut, and sparks insights and locutions that enable him to make sense of his life
