This album was plagued with technical difficulties so I doubt it'll never rise to the sonic levels it probably should but I'm guessing early copies will sound the best. The newer remixes sharpen it up but you lose the 'involvement' in my opinion. Having said all that this is a really good piece of pop from Elton. It's bouncy pop style means that 'Have mercy on the Criminal' and "Blues for Baby and me' often get overlooked but these are excellent pieces.

May it be the case that it was recorded in 72 but released in 73 ? We are talking about an album that got to no.1 in feb 73 so production,printing etc could have been done at the latter end of 72?

I just aquired the exact same one. Excellent condition and my father had the 8 track tape when I was in middle school. I'm about to turn to 56 years old. Lol. I saw Elton perform twice in concert.
